What You Need to Know

  • Even though the Medicare annual enrollment period in the fall has passed, you may have another opportunity to adjust your Medicare coverage beginning January 1, 2025. If you are currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can make a one-time change to your Medicare coverage between now and Monday, March 31. During this period, you can switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or to Original (traditional) Medicare to protect your in-network access to Mount Sinai providers and facilities.
  • Once you make this change, your new coverage generally will begin on the first day of the following month. So, for example, if you make a change on January 1, your new coverage will begin on Saturday, February 1.

The biggest decision when signing up for Medicare, or when making your annual Medicare selection, is whether to choose Original Medicare (sometimes called traditional Medicare), or to choose a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C).
